Name: BREAD BASKET/BAG

Brand: Terræ Altrove

Collection: Lello da Monterone (historical line)

Fabric: woven  barbed 100% cotton (37X27 CM)

Print: The printing method used to create this fabric design is the historic woodcut method, where wooden pieces are layered with colored ink and transferred onto the fabric with a pressing motion. This technique has been handed down from generation to generation.

Printing Method: The wooden stamps are handcrafted from pear tree and walnut tree wood. Once the design is chosen, it is sculpted onto the wooden block using artisanal tools. The blocks are then hammered down with a mallet to properly affix the design onto the fabric. Once dried, the piece of fabric is submerged in a fixing liquid made with ashes from the above-mentioned wood and boiling water

Design: The vine shoot design is a classic from the 1800s and a favorite among bottega-owners from yesteryear. This fabric features a harmonious rustic design with sinuous vine shoots.

Territory & History: Even if this printing technique is known to most as being originally from Romagna, it shares an inextricable link with the towns of Sansepolcro , Badia Tedalda, Sestino and Carpegna, respectively in Tuscany and Marche. It is a technique that has been handed down for 7 generations by artisan printmakers who first arrived here from Sansepolcro at the request of the Prince of Carpegna at the start of the 1800s.

Badivecchio in Valmarecchia was located near the border of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany (Il Ranco) but since the end of the reign of the House of Lorraine it has disappeared from the maps. However, his name remains a reference for high-quality artisans of terrae altrove .
