Territory and Vineyard: Cortona is an historic Etruscan town in Tuscany located in the Val di Chiana valley near Trasimeno Lake. The vines used to produce this wine reach over 10 years in age and are located on vineyards surrounding the small town of Pietraia at an altitude of approximately 300 meters. These vineyards feature mixed soil composition while the vines are cordon-spurred.
Flavour Profile: The marriage between Sangiovese and Merlot in this wine gives us a particularly lovely blend characterized by intense colouring, notes of ripe fruit and flowers with well-structured flavours and an elegant blend of tannins that will seduce your palate.
Winemaking Process: The grapes used to produce this Sangiovese Cortona D.O.C. are all hand-picked and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks set at 27°C. They undergo traditional methods of pumping over and delestage, as well as macerated with skins on for 10 to 15 days.
Aging: The Sangiovese is aged for at least 6 months in cement tanks while the Merlot is aged in barriques. Once blended, the wine ages for an additional few months in-bottle.
